Ahoy! Welcome to my first post of my first blog ever. Anyways, let’s get right into it!
I’m a pre-teen, and have experienced many things I want to share with the world. I live in India. My username is ‘Kid Lok Se’, which means, ‘From Kid Land’ in Sanskrit. In my following posts, I’m gonna share some exciting and fun things I have come across in my life, which includes books, movies, or anything!

Today, I will share a very funny story with you guys. I read this myself a few weeks before I post this from a book called ‘The best of Indian Wit and Wisdom’, from Amar Chitra Katha; a publishing company publishing many Indian historical & mythological stories. The story is called The ‘learned’ Pundit, (Pundit means scholarly man) (You’ll see why ‘learned’ is in apostrophes.)
So, without further ado:
Once, a few people were being ferried across a river. One of them was a Pundit. The Pundit was very bored and decided to talk with the others he was riding with.
The Pundit asked a man, “Who are you? Where do you come from?”
The man replied, “I am a farmer, good sir, from the village on the other side of the river”
Pundit: “I am scholar. I have a deep understanding of the Upanishads. Have you read the Upanishads?
Farmer: “No, sir. I haven’t”
Pundit: “You haven’t? You poor fellow! Quarter of your life has been wasted! You might have read the Shastras , then?”
Farmer: “No, sir. I don’t know the Shastras”
Pundit: “Oh dear.. Then half of your life is wasted! Surely you have read the six systems of philosophy?”
Farmer: “Never heard of them.”
Pundit: “ Never heard of them, then, my friend, three-fourths of your life…. Hey!”

Just then a huge storm broke out, and the waters became immensely choppy, and the small wooden boat shuddered furiously. Suddenly and small hole broke open in the center of the boat. The boatman shouted “It’s a thunderstorm! I cannot control it! You will have to jump overboard!”
The farmer, with a smile on his face, asked the Pundit, “Good sir, I hope you know how to swim…”
The Pundit, with a scared face replied, “N-n-no! I have no idea how to swim!”
The farmer continued, laughing.
“Then your whole life is wasted, Punditji!”
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Liked the story? So did I. Now, I’m gonna leave you on a question: What do you think was the moral of the story and why? Put it down in the comments, and I will heart some comments next time! We will also see another very interesting story next time…
